Rolex has an enviable history which is littered with milestone achievements. In 1926 the first waterproof and dustproof Rolex was launched and was given the name Oyster and almost immediately tested out by a swimmer who successfully completed a crossing of the English Channel. The watch was working perfectly at the end of the swim!
In 1931 Rolex invented and patented the world’s first Perpetual rotor which enabled self-winding, something that is found in all modern automatic watches today. A few years later the first expedition to fly over Everest wore Rolex Oysters and they worked perfectly. The Datejust arrived in 1945, the first self-winding chronometer to show the date in a window on the dial.
